The word Hukamnama comes from two Persian-derived terms used in Gurbani and Sikh tradition:

- Nama — Letter, Statement, or Edict
Together, Hukamnama means “the royal decree” or “the divine command.” In the Sikh context, it refers to a hymn (Shabad) selected from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji that serves as the Guru’s guidance for the day.
After the period of the human Gurus, the eternal Guru — Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji — continues to speak through the Hukamnama.
