Gurmat means guidance or understanding shaped by the Guru’s teaching. In Sikhi it refers to learning from Gurbani and allowing that teaching to guide choices, rather than following custom only because it is familiar. It differs from Gurmata, a collective resolution made in a Panthic setting.
